Producer History :

The farm belongs to the family since 1980, initially it was a dairy farm, with mostly pasture land. Namuk has cold weather therefore the family decided to grow apples, plums, and peaches, they noticed these fruits adapt well to the climate.

Currently the farm is being planted sustainably with coffee using avocado and other old native trees in the region as shade.

Alexander Ureña has been in charge of the farm since 1990, he was born in Santa María de Dota, since his childhood he worked growing coffee with his father Arturo Ureña and took care of the coffee plantations they had in Santa María and San Marcos. His family was always very involved with the development of the coffee economy in the area. Arturo Ureña and his father Bernardo Ureña, in different periods became managers of the coffee cooperative in Santa María de Dota.

When Alexander married his wife, Leda Chacón, he moved to Copey, where, due to the elevation and climate of the place he managed a dairy farm and grew fruits such as apples and plums. In recent years, with the support of his son Eduardo the idea to process specialty coffee from his farm came up. They have great advantages to grow specialty coffee because of the favorable weather conditions and the special care Alexander gives to the farm, he changed the cultivation of fruits for the cultivation of coffee, also motivated by the excellent coffee produced as well as returning to his passion from childhood, coffee.

In the harvest of 2019-2020, Alexander produced and processed the first micro lots with the help of his family, he is starting to build a name and brand for his coffee and he opens the doors of his farm to all those coffee lovers, who want to know more about his family project.

 

Lot Name / Description : 

Las Moras is one of the newest lots of the farm, this is the third crop and the variety is Yellow Catuai. This variety has the characteristic of being very sweet.  The family was very careful in the picking to ensure only ripe cherries, the result of this cup represents the effort of the family throughout the years. The name of the lot Las Moras, it is because before they planted coffee, they grew blackberries, in Spanish blackberries is “Moras”.
